So I haven’t got much sewing done as I had hoped I would, but that’s because I’ve been working on multiple other projects, ended up visiting a friend in another state, and ended up modeling some of my costumes for Sunshower Studios! She’s already uploaded some of the photos, which are gorgeous, and you can see them if you click the link.
Until I can post about my latest ongoing project (which will hopefully be later this week), I thought I’d update on some of the smaller craft things I’ve been doing.
Since I haven’t had much time to sew, I’ve been making earrings. I took this picture from my Instagram, but it’s been really fun working on earrings. They’re pretty much the opposite of costumes – super small-scale, quick, and easy enough (at least for the ones I make). I find it pretty relaxing, and it’s been a nice wind-down with the craziness of the past few weeks.
I’ve also started a Facebook Page, which you can find here. I’d really appreciate a like! It’s going to be a bit weird having another social platform, but hopefully there I’ll be posting more weekly updates and WIP’s, and things I’ve made for other people. Basically, it’s probably the the best place to check for ‘first to know’ sort of updates.
That’s really all I have to say for now! Hopefully soon I’ll be posting about my larger project, which combines design and photography, so watch out for that.
Well, I’m only a few weeks late!! I know most people aren’t even thinking about 2014 anymore, but I thought I’d look back at the year, especially because this blog turned a year old just a few weeks ago.

It’s been a while! My sewing ground to a halt for a few weeks, due to a few circumstances. However, I am back now, with a slightly different post than usual. I have spent the last week making dresses instead of costumes, and so today I’ll be writing about those.

Since I’ve spent most of the week away and don’t have any updates on my Steampunk Mad Hatter Costume yet (but you can read what I’ve done so far in part 1 and part 2), I thought I would do a post for Throwback Thursday, of the sewing projects I learnt to sew with, before I started making costumes. All of these were made in December and January of 2013 and 2014, some with patterns and some without. Most were skirts and dresses.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Inara, and I’m 17 years old. This is me:
A few facts you may not care to know:
- I love cats.
- I absolutely hate the cold.
- I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia.
- I am (at the same time) a very meticulous planner, and a very good procrastinator.
- I love the Game of Thrones books, the Book Thief, and many other books.
- I speak very bad German and even worse French (but I’m still learning that one, so there’s hope!)
- And finally, I love to sew (as you may have guessed).
The last point is the important one for this blog! In recent months, I’ve discovered a passion for sewing and costume design, and I’ll be using this blog to keep track of my progress, how I’ve made things, and what I’ve made, on an adventure to improve my skills and build a portfolio. I’ve only discovered serious sewing recently, but already I’ve spent hours upon hours designing, researching, and planning costumes that I want to one day make. It may seem silly to change what you want to do so suddenly, but I believe sewing is something that truly makes me happy, and is something I would love to one day pursue as a career.
So, if you are interested in what I make, how I make it, or how long it takes me, I encourage you to read on. I make a mixture of historical garments (or at least historically inspired) and fantasy projects, and both will be on this blog. I hope you’ll stay, and enjoy what I am sewing in the months to come.
